The regionals are not quite over when it comes to the 2009 College World Series. Today, 6 teams get to have a 1 game showdown with the team they beat yesterday. That means the teams out of the losers bracket had to play 2 games yesterday. Some teams have had a time of it. At least 6 of the 16 have yet to place with only 2 super regional brackets filled. Right now we know that FSU will face off with Arkansas and TCU will square off with Texas. Now, lets take a look at the 6 pesky loser bracket winners.
Vanderbilt lost there first game against Middle Tennessee 4-5 and then slaughter Indiana 10-0. They then got the chance to get revenge against Middle Tennessee and took advantage by thrashing them 6-0. Vanderbilt then got the opportunity to face Louisville in a win or go home game. Well, lets just say that Vandy decide they were not ready to go home and took an 8-4 victory for a shot to play for the super regionals today.
Western Kentucky did not have as bad of a time with it as Vandy did. WK did not lose until their second game. They ended up facing the same team they beat in the first round, Missouri. WK posted an 11-6 victory and advance to the win or go home game. This game looked nothing like the first game where Mississippi dominated. The score was tight and in the end, Western Kentucky lived to fight another day.
The first meeting of Rice and Kansas State proved to favor Kansas State with a 7-6 victory. This loss came in the second game for Rice and they had to fight out of the loser’s bracket against Xavier, who they thrashed 12-5. In the evening cap, Rice got the last laugh as they beat KS 8-0 and live to play another day.
East Carolina gets a shot at South Carolina today after fighting for their life yesterday. They managed to pull it out 8-6 against SC after pounding on Binghamton 16-9.
Clemson gets to fight it out with Oklahoma State today after pounding them in the ground 15-1.
Georgia Tech pulls out of the loser’s bracket to face off against Souther Miss.
Once all of these games are finished, it will round off the Super Regionals.
