ALCS Playoffs; Second Edition

by Alley on October 3, 2008

Evan Longoria might be the new stud of Major League Baseball. His powerful bat propelled the Tamba Bay Rays to their frist ever postseason win in yesterday’s action. They Rays outlasted the powerful Chicago White Sox in St Petersburg, Florida. As for a home record, the Rays posted the best in the league with a 57-24 spot.

It did not take long for the American League East Champions to get on board against the American League Central Champions. In the second inning, Longoria hit his first home run of the post season into the left field seats. It just so happened to be Javier Vazquez’s first pitch of the second inning. This would excite the sell out crowd of 35,041.

The White Sox would answer with their own as Dewayne Wise would launch a bomb of his own. James Sheilds had Wise 2-2 when Dewayne decide it was time to hit a 3 run jack. This deflated the crowd almost immediately.

That would not be the case for the Rays though. They shook it off and came up to bat in the third inning. The Rays would string together some hits in their half of the inning as well. The inning would be started off with a single by shortstop Jason Barlett. Akinori Iwamura would then smash a triple to dead center or Ken Griffey, Jr’s head. We would be driven in by Willie Aybar. The inning would be capped off when Longoria would once again come to the plate and launch another bomb over the wall. This would erupt the crowd once again. The White Sox would never recover as Vazquez would be chased in the 5th as the rays scored 2 more runs to cushion the lead.

The next game will be on Friday at 6 PM EST. It will again be televised on TBS.

JB, this is oh so true. However, since we were running this as a series and did not want to change the name in the middle of it, we decided to just refer to it as ALCS instead of ALDS and then change to ALCS.

Good post. I hope the Rays go all the way. Would be nice to see the tilted Tropicana Field full. The Rays have already broke the Yankee’s “extra farm team” spell they had been under.

Rich, I think they earned that from all the ties that George had in Tampa.
